Welcome Wren's Nesters!

While some technical difficulties kept me away from the blog for the first two days, we are finally up and running!
We welcomed 8 new friends and 2 alumni back to the nest this year! We've been exploring the land, getting to know each other, and enjoying all that this Indian summer has to offer.

We missed our Katie today, but we were very lucky to have Ms Karen join us! Her animal card this year is Rabbit, one of my personal favorites!

We shared mysteries and wonders about our animal cards. We also sang our apple tree song!
On our way to the pond to keep cool on this 90 degree day. Buckets, shovels, blankets, snack, and water all packed up for a long morning adventure before the heat sets in.
We saw a green frog (bottom left corner) on our way. We thought he probably came up from the drainage ditch. He didn't stay for too long before hopping under the house for shelter.
A bluebird day! Last week at the Pond we spotted a Bald Eagle! No sign of one today...
We all enjoyed snack in the shade, looking out at the water.
Then right to work! Some busy sand engineers...
Everyone worked together to haul sand and water to build a dam. Just like busy beavers.

Breaks in the shade were spent drawing, writing books, and playing tic tac toe!
Umbrellas for shade...
Clover soup! Yum! The view of footprint farms bursting rows, inspired this delicious soup.
Simon says in the pond was the perfect way to cool down before lunch.
Passing water down the line, takes focus and concentration!

Finally to the end!
After lunch we spend some much needed cool down time drawing and looking at books.

Time for some stories! Ms Karen brought the book Roly Poly, about two hedgehogs, to share with us.
Now time to find out some things about apples. We used wild apples and our keen skills of observation to learn some things about apples.
We studied them hard to get to know our individual apples, before they were all mixed up and we had to remember which was ours.

Then we learned about safety while using butter knives, and got to work dissecting our apples to find out how many seeds live inside, and if we found as many as we each guessed.

Wren's Nest is off to a great start with a taste of summer. However, the leaves are changing and the milkweed seeds are flying, reminding us that it is indeed fall. Time to start using our eagle eyes to notice and enjoy these subtle transitions.
